BSG trains 550 people to translate Bible into Sefwi Language

Sefwi Bekwai (W/N) Jan. 27-GNA- Five Hundred and fifty people who received training on how to translate the Bible into Sefwi language have graduated at Sefwi Bekwai in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai District of the Western North Region.

The participants, after successful completion of the one-year course, were awarded certificates of completion.

The programme was facilitated by the Bible Society of Ghana (BSG) in collaboration with the Swedish Mission Council (SMC).

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Mr Douglas Adu Hayford, Western North Regional Advocacy Officer described the project, which started two years ago as very successful with a lot of benefits.

“Almost in every part of the Region, people speak the Sefwi language, therefore, the society decided to train people to read and write Sefwi, especially the Bible”, he said.

Mr Alfred Amoah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai commended the BSG for the bold decision to have the Bible translated into Sefwi language.

He noted that various stakeholders would be consulted to help add the Sefwi language into the National Academic Curriculum like the other languages.

For his part, the Adontehene of Sefwi – Bekwai Traditional Council, Nana Marfo Paan advised the youth to speak the language always even when they traveled outside the Region.
