Ho, Jan. 19, GNA – Madam Augustina Addo Frimpong, the only female among the State Transport Corporation’s drivers, has appealed to drivers to remain faithful to the rules of the road to avoid crashes.
She said patience and the need to safeguard human lives should inform decisions on the road at all times.
Madam Addo Frimpong said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after completing a six-hour drive from Kumasi to Tema.
“All I can say to my fellow drivers is that they should exercise patience while driving. Because you might be driving cautiously but then someone’s misfortune could come your way. When you are patient, you can manage it, but not when you are driving recklessly.”
“The very few seconds you stop for others on the road can save a lot of lives. So, I will plead that we all exercise patience, be attentive and diligent, and continue to pray, because everything that is done with prayer ends well,” she said.
The 54-year old female driver and a mother of three, said she had been a commercial driver for the past 20 years, adding that she developed the interest in the profession at an early age from her father, who loved driving.
She said she was trained by the Metro Mass Transport project and became the only woman recruited for the Urban Rapid Transit “Aayalolo,” which was introduced.
Madam Addo Frimpong said she planned to establish an institution to train more women for professional commercial driving, an initiative she hoped would create jobs for the youth.
“Women drivers tend to make the roads safer than their male counterparts, and so I encourage more women to join,” she said.
