Leipzig, German, Dec 13, (dpa/GNA) – A young man was fatally injured in an accident that occurred during an attempt to escape the police in the German state of Saxony on Saturday night.
The 19-year-old driver reportedly sped away from a police checkpoint in the town of Schlettau only to then lose control of his vehicle before hitting a tree, a police spokesman said.
The other passengers were injured, some of them seriously. The 19-year-old driver and a male passenger the same age were taken to hospital with serious injuries, while a 20-year-old passenger was killed. Two other passengers aged 20 and 21 also sustained light injuries.
According to Sunday’s reports, police are still investigating the exact circumstances of the accident and are trying to establish whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
