Rome, Dec 13, (dpa/GNA) – Emergency rescue workers in Sicily looking for survivors, found four more bodies buried beneath the rubble of several buildings on Monday, after they collapsed following a powerful explosion.
Firefighters located four of the six people who were still missing after the blast that occurred on Saturday evening.
The latest find brings the death toll to seven in the town of Ravanusa, near Agrigento in the south of the island.
There was little hope of finding the last two people missing alive, the rescue workers said.
The search and recovery has been underway for 30 hours straight, the fire brigade said in a tweet.
A four-storey residential building collapsed after the explosion, that occurred at 8:30 pm (1930 GMT) on Saturday, and several other buildings were also destroyed.
Rescuers managed to recover two women alive from the rubble.
Some 100 people were no longer able to enter their homes, while the surrounding area was covered in rubble, with fires frequently breaking out.
