Hohoe (V/R), Dec. 11, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Krachi East Municipal Assembly of the Oti region, has held a forum in Dambai for more than 200 selected youth on national cohesion and inclusive participation in governance.
They are made up of Heads of Departments, chiefs, youth groups, political parties, dressmakers, hairdressers, traders, driver unions, media, drivers, artisans, persons with disabilities, and okada riders.
Mr Francis Kofi Okesu, Krachi East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), commended the peaceful coexistence among the people of the Municipality and the region since its creation while urging them to continue to be law abiding for the development of the Municipality.
He advised that there was the need for the people to embrace the changes that came with the status of Municipality and the Regional capital especially payment of taxes and helping the security services with information promptly to help curb criminal activities.
Mr Okesu admonished the participants to fully participate in the forum and ask questions where necessary for better understanding.
The Municipal Director of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Mr Sey Jacob took the participants through the operations and location of the office and entreated the identifiable groups present to visit the office if they have any challenges concerning their Ghana Card.
He said their doors were opened to all in the Municipality for services such as new registration to people who were Ghanaians and up to fifteen years, cards replacement, updating of cards such as changing and correcting of names, and changing of digital addresses.
Mr Clement Kwesi Mamadu, Krachi East Municipal Director of NCCE, advised the participants to register their sim cards as early as possible to avoid overcrowding in the last days of the exercise: March 2022 since the re-registration will help reduce frauds, theft, and robbery issues.
Mr Essel Pardmore, a representative from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) sensitised the participants on the registration processes and some illnesses covered by the Scheme as well as how they could link membership cards with their ECOWAS identity cards (Ghana card).
He admonished the participants not to wait till they were ill before they go to register or renew their NHIS cards.
Madam Juliet Akorfa, from the Krachi East Municipal Health Directorate, revealed that HIV cases had risen among pregnant women as well the youth and advised participants to abstain, use a condom or be faithful to their partners.
She entreated all to get vaccinated which was free and asked them to ignore videos on social media about the effects of the Covid-19 vaccines.
Superintendent Samuel Aboagye, Krachi East Municipal Police Commander urged the participants to be vigilant during the festive season so they do not become victims to fraudulent individuals including mobile money fraudsters.
