Tema, Dec 11, GNA-The Tema Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service has appealed to Ghanaians especially industries and entities in the Tema Region to assist the command with operational logistics including; motorcycles to increase visibility and patrols.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Baba Saanid Adamu, Tema Deputy Regional Commander who made the appeal, explained that crime in the region had changed as recent surveillance indicated that thieves now operated on motorcycles to rob mobile money agents.
He said the police were always ahead of the criminal elements in society and would continue to fight and apprehend all miscreants in society hence the need for sufficient motorcycles to be able to fight crime steadily.
ACP Adamu, who represented the Tema Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Barima Tweneboah Sasraku II during a meeting with the media in Tema to dialogue on ways to improve the symbiotic relations that existed between the media and the Police to promote a more peaceful, safe and law-abiding society.
He indicated that intensification of patrol was vital in protecting lives and property in the country, adding that the few robbery cases recorded were under control.
ACP Adamu acknowledged the support from some philanthropic personalities and institutions who supported the Tema Regional Command with some motorcycles.
He added that the police had rolled-out strategic engagement with stakeholders including mobile money agents to equip them with some safety tips, adding that, churches and other social groups were also being engaged to alert them of the dangers and measures they could take for safety.
ACP Adamu however said that criminal activities had improved within the region in 2021 compared to previous to statistics.
He added that the Police Command would not slack in the discharge of its duties of protecting lives and property and also enforcement of the various laws.
He advised Ghanaians to take personal security seriously during the Yuletide as people had different motives during festive seasons.
He assured that the Police would continue to protect the lives and property of the citizens, especially during this time of the year.
ACP Adamu cautioned the public to desist from calling the private phone numbers of Police officers in times of crisis, but called the emergency numbers in times of danger than calling individual polices.
He said a lot of the effort of police were yielding results and that had resulted in the decrease in crime rate in the Tema region.
