Cape Coast, Dec 03, GNA – All is set for the 37th National Farmers Day celebration at the Adisadel College Park in Cape Coast with the arrival of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and other high profile personalities.
These include Ministers of State, Members of Parliament and Members of the Diplomatic Corp.
The event, on the theme: “Planting for Food and Jobs: Consolidating Food Systems in Ghana”, commenced on Monday, November 29, with a colourful Agricultural Fair and Trade Exhibition, which saw all the 16 regions displaying their agricultural potentials.
On exhibition were farm produce, crafts, smock, leather wares, and agricultural machinery among other items, with beautiful cultural displays of the various regions on the sidelines.
Friday, which is the climax, is seeing participants, traders and attendees in high expectations as the day is pregnant with breath-taking activities.
Some of the dances on display are the Kpalongo and Jama by the Mobraz Farms from Medina, Accra, who are full of excitement waiting to receive an award.
Mr De-Graft Agyei-Amoako, a participant, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that he was excited to be part of the grand durbar, adding that he came to support his sister, an award winner from the Ashanti Region.
“My sister, Olivia Agyeiwaa, 39, is a plantain, cashew and coconut farmer and I am here to support her,” he said.
He encouraged everyone to engage in some sort of farming, even if a backyard, to ensure food security adding that he was an office worker and a farmer as well.
Mr Mohammed Amin, a smock seller, said sales had been good since the beginning of the Fair.
Sarah Saim Amoh, a craft seller, said even though it was difficult securing a place to exhibit her craft, sales had been good and commended the security services for the good job.
Brassband music by the Regional New Patriotic Party youth has heated up the atmosphere with some displaying placards, which read ” Agriculture for development,” “Check expiry dates of products” and “Save food now”.
