Merkel says she would support compulsory vaccinations

Berlin, Dec 2, (dpa/GNA) – Outgoing Chancellor, Angela Merkel, has spoken out in favour of introducing compulsory coronavirus vaccinations in Germany.

She would vote for the requirement if she were still a member of the Bundestag when the vote was planned, Merkel said on Thursday after a meeting between the German central and state governments about coronavirus measures in Berlin.

Merkel’s successor, Olaf Scholz, has already announced that a general requirement to get vaccinated would be voted on in the Bundestag, and the vote would not be conducted along party lines.
