Apollo (W/R), Nov.19, GNA – Hundreds of unemployed youth within the Western Region have benefitted from the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) Job Fair, which made available an estimated 400 verified job avenues for employment.
The Fair supported the proposals of those with sharp business ideas for entrepreneurship pitching to support them to establish their own businesses.
Participants also benefitted from career talk sessions, writing of curriculum vitae (CV), preparation for interviews and other pre-employment services by 115 chief executive officers, founders and directors of businesses.
The fair, organized in partnership with the Presidential Advisory Unit on the Sustainable Development Goals and the Western Regional Coordinating Council, at Apollo in the Western Region, would help to restore hope to many youth and bridge the unemployment gap.
It was supported by the Netherlands Development Organisation’s ‘GrEEn Job’ programme.
The banks, academia, pharmaceutical companies, security services, food and beverage industries, engineers and information and communication technology firms, and waste management companies mounted booths to engage and shortlist job seekers for employment.
Mr Yaw Nsiah, a facilitator, said the YEA was helping to sharpen the skills of the job seekers for excellent performance.
He said the Agency had a job centre and a training hub for youth to build on their skills to become more versatile in their various fields to facilitate employment.
Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister, said the career and job fair fitted into the vision of the Regional Coordinating Council to create an entrepreneurial governance system and mainstream the youth through the SDG’s to access job opportunities.
He said the Government was striving to use all partnerships to provide decent jobs for many Ghanaians.
“It is my expectation that the youth of the region will take advantage of the Job Fair and exploit the opportunities to get into direct contact with business owners and private companies for employment avenues,” he said.
Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Afriyie, the Director of Corporate Affairs at the YEA, said the Fair would serve as a turning point in the lives of many job seekers in the region.
Mr Yaw Amoabeng, the Regional Coordinator of the YEA, pledged the Secretariat’s commitment to continue to scout for opportunities for the youth to restore their confidence.
