Saki, (Nera Kpone), Nov. 15, GNA – The Saki branch of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) has organized a clean-up exercise in the Nmlitsakpo Electoral Area in the Kpone-Kantamanso Municipality.
The exercise was to ensure effective cleaning of the community to keep the town from both bacterial and virus diseases infections.
Madam Diana Praba Botwey, Health Director of SDA Ministry said the church decided to undertake the exercise in fulfilment of the mandate that, “cleanliness is next to godliness”.
She said it was the vision of the church to make Saki an epitome of cleanliness to other communities and the country as a whole and they decided to organize such exercises every first Sunday of every new month to promote environmental hygiene.
Mr Isaac Newton Tetteh, Assembly man of the area in an interaction with Ghana News Agency commended the SDA church for their efforts in taking up the lead as a religious organization to clean up the environment.
“This is what we expect the churches to do because the members of the church, are those in the communities littering the environment,” he added.
He said regular cleanliness would prevent contagious viruses as poor sanitation was linked to the transmission of diseases.
He said this was a means of supporting “Operation Clean your frontages” an initiative of Greater Accra Regional Minister saying that faith based organization must join the campaign to boost other people’s interest.
He said keeping the environment clean, would not only help uplift the image of their communities, but also promote good health.
He pleaded with residents and religious leaders to change their attitudes and join the campaign towards improving sanitation to keep Saki clean and charged sanitation officers to be proactive.
