Kadjebi (O/R), Nov. 14, GNA – Government workers in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region have called on the government to increase salary from the current four per cent to 10 per cent.
Mr. Emmanuel Doe, the Kadjebi District CLOGSAG Chairman in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the current salary increment of four per cent was woefully inadequate and “nothing to write home about”, so should be increased to at least ten per cent.
Mr. Doe also called for implementation of honorarium, clothing and car allowances for CLOGSAG members across board but not selected few.
Mr. Anthony Agortimevor, the Kadjebi District GNAT Vice Chairman, pleaded with the government to make upward adjustment of salary to ten per cent since inflation and fuel price had consumed the four per cent salary given to workers.
He appealed to the government to provide accommodation to teachers; especially those posted to hard-to-reach and rural communities to ease their accommodation problems.
He also called for the payment of transfer grants to its members who for some time now have not been receiving their transfer grants.
Sir Lord Godwin Humado, the Kadjebi Local Council of Labour Chairman, urged the government to increase the salaries from the proposed seven per cent for 2022 to 13 per cent because of the present economic hardship in the country.
Mr. Humado said the fuel price rise and introduction of new taxes had consumed workers’ salaries, so an increase to 13 per cent would cushion them.
Ms. Vida Aku Amanu, the Kadjebi acting Market Queen, appealed to the government to give financial support to market women.
She said this would enable them to make upfront payment for goods bought, but not on credit.
