Winneba (C/R), Nov. 14, GNA – The United Nations Association-Ghana (UNA-GH) is optimistic that the Police Service, Parliament and the Executive arm of government will expedite action with relevant protocols to avert any tension, which could disturb the peace of the country.
This was contained in a statement signed by Bishop Peter Kojo Sackey Vice- President and the Reverend Dr Mark Nii Lamptey, Deputy Secretary-General of the Association and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
It mentioned the placement of successful applicants to the Ghana Law School and intermittent clashes between the military and the police with reference to the Suame Police Station incident at Kumasi, as some of the issues that needed immediate redress.
“We have been observing development between the Executive arm of the state and legislature, which need to be fixed to pave the way for a more harmonious relations between the two important Institutions,” it stated.
It also mentioned the October 25 and 31 incidents between Ghana Police Service and Member of Parliament for Madina, Lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu, which had been referred to Privileges Committee of Parliament.
“It is common knowledge universally that the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary are vital bodies with specific mandatory functions for development and to ensure sanity in the country”.
They statement pointed out that Ghana had come of age in its constitutional dispensation, given birth to the 1992 Constitution and must not allow wrong signals to be sent to global platforms to mar its reputation.
“Leadership is key to achieving peace and development and we wish to encourage the hierarchy of our Institutions mandated to champion such course to proactively employ early warning systems to terminate such sensitive issues at the point of conception to prevent it from escalating into conflicts”.
UNA-GH believed that all the relevant Institutions in the country had the capacity to maintain the peace and development that the United Nations stands for.
