Kedzikope (V/R), Nov. 13, GNA – Government, through the Coastal Development Authority (CODA), will from next week provide medical, economic and financial support to tidal wave victims in the Volta Region.
The support, which would check the health status of victims of the weekend’s tidal storm for attention, provide fishing equipment to fishermen and offer soft loans to traders, aimed to alleviate the suffering of the people and get them back on their feet.
Mr Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Chief Executive Officer of CODA, made this known during his visit to the three coastal districts in Ketu South, Keta and Anloga, where the flooding had destroyed homes and rendered people homeless.
He explained that the President had sent him to the areas to assess the situation and see what help could be given to the affected persons for the needed impact.
Mr Shaib noted that the women would be given head pans for free and an interest-free loan from GH¢500.00 to GH¢1,000.00 payable within six months to enable them to ply their trade (fish mongering).
For the men, he noted, that outboard motors, selling between GH¢22,000.00-GH¢25,000.00, would be given to the fishermen at a subsidised price of GH¢10,000.00 and with a longer period of repayment.
“We’re also bringing doctors and nurses to check your health status to determine whether the devastation brought any medical conditions on you or not. Those of you without the National Health Insurance Scheme cards will be registered onto the Scheme.
Mr Emmanuel Gemegah, Municipal Chief Executive for Keta, reminded the people of the plan to relocate them to Kedzi and called for inputs that would benefit everyone.
Madam Patience Gudo Akaba, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said she and the others were willing to relocate until the floods receded.
