Accra, Oct.29, GNA – The Lands Commission through its Gender Unit, has organised a breast cancer screening and other medical checks for its staff.
The health screening is part of activities to mark the breast cancer month and to create awareness among staff to regularly go for medical check-ups.
A team of medical doctors from Health Medicare, a private health facility, led by Dr Carlos Ofori, counselled the staff on the need to examine their breasts frequently.
During the interactive session, he said the fight against breast cancer was an all-inclusive action since both men and women were at risk, although women were at a higher risk of getting the disease.
He said breast cancer could be treated if detected early and prompt action taken to avoid further spread.
Dr Ofori, therefore, encouraged the staff to frequent the hospital for early diagnosis and treatment.
Mr James Dadson, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission, admonished the staff to prioritise their health through regular medical check-ups.
He said the Commission was committed to ensuring the well-being of staff as “health is priceless” and thus, lauded the Gender Unit for organising the medical screening every year.
Ms Margaret Lamptey, the Head of the Gender Unit, said it was an important exercise on the calendar of the Unit to ensure the health of staff “because whenever a staff is sick, it affects productivity at work.”
Some of the staff commended Management for the initiative and called for medical screening, at least every six months.
