Koforidua, Oct 15, GNA – Mr Seth Acheampong, Eastern Regional Minister has presented 1,248 motorbikes to the 33 Municipal and District Assemblies in the region to be distributed to Assembly members to facilitate their duties.
Under the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, the presentation of the motorbikes to Assembly members was to facilitate and make governance at the local level effective and accessible towards government’s development agenda.
The Regional Minister who presented the motorbikes to Mr Micheal Absorbent, Dean of Presiding Members in the Eastern Region, called on him to ensure that the motorbikes were used for the intended purposes.
He said government was interested in improving the structures at the local level of governance for effective decentralized systems and improve community participation at the local level for national development.
On behalf of the Assembly members, Mr Absorbent thanked the government and the Local Government Minister, Mr Dan Botwe, for living up to their promise of resourcing Assembly members to perform their duties and assured that the motorbikes would be used for the intended purposes.
