Sandema (U/E), July 20, GNA – Muslims in Sandema, the Municipal capital of the Builsa North Municipality on Tuesday observed the Eid-ul-Adha celebration modestly and in a calm atmosphere.
The Muslims, many of whom were dressed in white apparel including students from the Sandema Senior High School (SANSEC) and the Sandema Senior High Technical School (SANSECTEC), trooped to the prayer ground as early as 0700hours to offer prayers to God.
The Eid-ul-Adha celebration, which is also known as ‘Al-Eid Al-Kabir’, is a major feast of sacrifice celebrated in memory of Prophet Ibrahim who tried to sacrifice his only son Isma’il (Ishmael) as a mark of faith.
Mallam Jamaldeen Seidu Seinu, the Builsa North Municipal Chief Imam, who led the prayers, emphasized the need for Muslims to strengthen their faith in Almighty Allah.
“It is as a result of faith that our forefather Ibrahim decided to sacrifice his only son to Allah as a sign of appreciation, but Allah in His wisdom, exchanged a ram in place of Isma’il (Ishmael). This tells us that there is no religion that associates with human sacrifice,” he said.
He entreated Muslims to emulate the faith exhibited by Ibrahim, and allow the same faith to reflect in their daily activities as Muslims, as they continue to uphold the principles of Islam, and peacefully co-exist with their neighbours in their respective communities.
Mallam Seinu also used the opportunity to call on the Municipal Police Command to work harder to minimise the crime rate, especially robbery attacks, and snatching of motorbikes in the Municipality, which was a concern to many residents.
The Imam reminded the congregation about the new COVID-19 variant in the country and admonished Muslims in the Municipality not to relent on the COVID-19 protocols spelt out by the Ghana Health Service.
