Ejura Conflict: President gives directive for public inquiry

Accra, June 30, GNA – The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has instructed Mr Ambrose Dery, the Minister of the Interior, to initiate a public inquiry into the incident that claimed the lives of two and injured four at Ejura, on Tuesday.

A statement signed by Mr Eugene Arhin, Acting Director of Communications at the Office of the President, said the inquiry would provide a detailed report with recommendations within10 days for appropriate action to be taken

“The President is saddened by the death of Ibrahim Mohammed, alias “Kaaka”, Abdul Nasir Yuasif and Mutala Mohammed,” it stated.

The statement extended the ‘sincere’ condolence of the President to the families of the deceased and wished the injured speedy recovery.

Irate youth protesting against the beating and resultant death of Kaaka by some unidentified persons, clashed with riot control security personnel whose firing to disperse them resulted in the casualties.

Meanwhile, three persons have since been picked up by the police to assist in their investigations into the death of Kaaka.

The incident has resulted in a public outcry over the deployment of safe but effective riot control mechanisms by security officials.
