NGO organizes quiz competition for schools at Gushegu

Kpatinga (N/R), June 20, GNA – Markaz-Al-Bishaara, a non-governmental organisation, with support from Children Believe, has organised a quiz competition for some Junior High Schools (JHS) at Kpatinga in the Gushegu Municipality.

The quiz was to test students’ preparedness towards the writing of their Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) to ensure they improved on their academic performance in the Municipality.

Competing schools included Gmaazijung JHS, Bogu-Naayili JHS and Kpatinga E/A JHS.

Gmaazijung JHS were adjudged winners of the competition, followed by Bogu-Naayili JHS in the second position and Kpatinga E/A JHS placed third.

Madam Martha Tierney Tieyiri, Programme Officer in charge of Education at Children Believe, said the quiz was to encourage students to look beyond their textual knowledge and establish a relationship between theory and application of learnt concepts.

She advised the students to take their studies seriously to help them pass their BECE, saying, their future depended on the success of the examination.

Madam Tieyiri urged teachers to adopt daily quiz to test the students’ knowledge on every concept taught.

Mr Mohammed Yazid, a representative from the Gushegu Municipal Directorate of Education commended the students for their efforts to demonstrate their learning abilities.

He announced that Ghana Education Service would introduce a new academic curriculum to enhance the growth of the education sector in the country.

He said, “While the primary school curriculum is to build the competence of the children, the JHS curriculum will deal with common core programmes that seek to make pupils realise their dreams.”

Each of the three contestants of the winning school received a bicycle, the second and third school contestants also had school bags, exercise books and all the three schools each had textbooks in English, Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies to stock their school libraries.
