Accra, June 4, GNA – The Madina District Court has ordered the Cyber Crime Unit of the Ghana Police Service to unlock the phone of Prince Charles Dedjoe, the Business Executive being held over spousal murder.
It also directed that the telephone of Lillian, now deceased, should also be unlocked to retrieve information to assist in police investigations.
According to the court, the deceased 17 year old daughter who had knowledge of her mother’s password should assist to unlock her mother’s phone.
The court order came after Police Chief Inspector Sophia Adamuwaa moved a motion for an order of the court, directed at the Cyber Crime Unit to unlock the two phones so the Police could retrieve information between the deceased and her father as well as that of the accused and the deceased.
Police Chief Inspector Adumuwaa, the Prosecutor, in her motion on notice for examination of the electronic device, that is, mobile phones, said accused sent some Whatsapp messages to the complainant in the case.
According to her, there were some WhatsApp messages of the complainant (deceased father), Mr Seth Charles Blasu, and the accused on the said assault of the deceased.
“The Police believe that the phones have some vital information that would enhance investigations. Unfortunately, the phones are locked, that is, they have codes on them.
We are therefore praying the court for an order to unlock and examine message contents to enhance investigations,” the Prosecutor said.
Defense counsel, Captain (Retired) Nkrabeah Effah Darteh did not oppose the motion.
He said his client could assist the Police by giving them the password and his 17 year old daughter could also provide her mother’s password.
Defense counsel said the accused person was ready to assist the Police with every information and the National Security has every information on his client and they had nothing to hide.
He was not happy with the way his application to secure an investigation caution statements from the children of the couple was being handled by the Police.
According to him, the Prosecutor representing the Police, had declined to accept service of his application.
The court then asked him to facilitate the serving of either the Attorney General’s Department or the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service with application.
The matter has been adjourned to June 18.
The case of the Prosecution is that the complainant is the deceased father, a retired administrator residing at Sogakope in the Volta Region.
Prosecution said Lillian Dedjoe, the 43-year-trader, now deceased, was married to Dedjoe and both lived at East Legon, Accra.
According to the prosecution, Dedjoe and the deceased’s relationship had been marred with some misunderstanding leading to conflicts between them for some time now.
The prosecution said on March 1, this
year, a misunderstanding ensued between Dedjoe and Lilian, which Dedjoe allegedly assaulted Lilian who sustained injuries and later went to the Madina Polyclinic for treatment.
It said when Lilian returned home, her condition deteriorated and on March 6, 2021, Lilian went into coma and was rushed to the Lister Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Prosecution said a report was made to the Police and Dedjoe was arrested.
It said, during investigations, Dedjoe admitted assaulting the deceased with slippers.
The prosecution said a post-mortem examination is yet to be carried out on the deceased.
Dedjoe is facing a provisional charge of murder.
The Madina District Court has preserved the plea of the Dedjoe and remanded him into lawful custody.
