Kadjebi launches 30 Days Countdown to Census Night

Kadjebi (O/R), May 29, GNA – Kadjebi District Assembly in the Oti Region has launched the 30 days countdown to the 2021 Census Night at Kadjebi.

Mr Maxwell Kofi Asiedu, the Kadjebi District Chief Executive (DCE), addressing the participants, said field data collection would commence with the listing of all structures from June 13, 2021.

He said the Census Night was set for June 27, 2021, and persons in transit and short-stay institutions such as hotels, guest house and hospital in-patient would be counted.

He, however, explained that the enumeration of all persons in residential households’ facilities, as well as institutions and all other persons, commenced from June 28 to July 11, 2021.

Mr Asiedu entreated the electorates to get counted since the government would use the census data to measure, monitor and estimate the extent to which the country had made progress in its national development agenda.

He said the importance of census facts in planning; policy and decision-making cannot be under-estimated.

Mr Asiedu explained that population and housing census data provided a rich source of information for carrying out demographic, social and economic surveys so there was the need for everyone to get counted.

He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that the Census was conducted smoothly and in a safe and secured environment with minimum or no disruption.

Mr Joseph Agbeko-Yadoglah, the Kadjebi acting District Census Officer, said the main goal of the Census was to achieve complete coverage of all structures and persons in Ghana in line with the “leave no one behind” agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Mr Agbeko-Yadoglah, who read the Government Statistician speech, said the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) had identified 131,739 localities, 51,916 enumeration areas, 11,020 supervisory areas in the 260 Districts and 16 Regions in the country.

However, for Census implementation, the GSS would work with 32 Statistical Regions and 272 Districts.

Mr Agbeko-Yadoglah said to ensure complete and accurate coverage and full preparations for data collection, the GSS formed and inaugurated Regional (RCICs) and District (DCICs) Census Implementation Committees, recruited District Census Officers (DCOs) in all the 272 Statistical Districts, Supervisors in the 131,739 localities, among others.

He said technological advances, process digitalisation and effective training being the hallmarks of Ghana 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC) were integrated into the census process to ensure the production of quality data.

He appealed to the media to do a daily countdown of the Census to the Census Night scheduled for June 27, 2021.

Mr Agbeko-Yadoglah asked the field enumerators to be patient with the respondents for them to generate accurate, actual and factual population data.

Mr Alhassan Sulemana, the DCIC Chairman, said the census figures would be used for equitable distribution of the national cake, identified the disadvantaged population, formulation of housing policies and programmes, inter-censual survey, among others.

Mr Alhassan Sulemana, who is also the Kadjebi District Co-ordinating Director, advised the applicants to play a non-partisan role and encouraged mass participation in the exercise.

He also appealed to the citizenry to help garner accurate, factual and reliable data for the development of the country.
