Turkey tests rocket engine for planned lunar mission

Istanbul, April 11, (dpa/GNA) – Turkey has tested a hybrid rocket engine for a planned mission to the moon, Technology Minister Mustafa Varank said on Sunday.

The ignition of another rocket was also tested in the process, the minister said.

According to state news agency Anadolu, the test was completed near the western Turkish city of Sile.

Another test is planned in the locality of Sinop in May.

Turkey plans to send its own mission to moon in 2023. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan presented the space plan in February.

He came under criticism at the time for supporting the expensive project despite the currently difficult economic situation in Turkey.
