Accra, Jan. 09, GNA – The National Council on Persons with Disability was established by the National Persons with Disability Act, 2006, Act 715 and tasked with the responsibility of proposing and evolving policies that would mainstream persons with disability in the national development process.
The vision of the Council is to ensure inclusion, empowerment and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities with its core functions being the monitoring and evaluation of disability policies and programmes, formulation of strategies for broad-based inter-sectoral, inter-disciplinary involvement and participation in the implementation of the national disability policy.
It is also to ensure the preparation of an organisational manual on the operations of the Council and its secretariat and advise the Ministry on disability issues and submit to the Minister, proposals for appropriate legislation on disability, among others.
In line with the Ghana News Agency’s commitment to ensuring that persons with disabilities are visible in all aspects of inclusive development, the Agency publishes below, the Council’s 2018 Annual Report for easy tracking of issues affecting persons with disabilities, challenges, gains made over the period and the way forward.
