Landslide kills five on Indonesia’s Java island

Jakarta, Nov. 18, (dpa/GNA) – Five people have been killed in a landslide triggered by heavy rain in Indonesia’s Central Java province, an official said Wednesday.

The landslide in Banyumas district occurred early Tuesday while residents were sleeping, said Raditya Jati, spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency.

The national weather agency said more heavy rain was expected in the area in the coming days.

Deadly landslides and floods are common in Indonesia during the rainy season between November and March.
