Bangkok, Nov. 17, (dpa/GNA) – Thai police sprayed water laced with tear gas on anti-government protesters calling for reforms on Thursday.
The protesters gathered in Bangkok to march to Parliament to pressure lawmakers to approve a proposed set of constitutional amendments.
Police had set up barricades and deployed water cannon outside Parliament where they faced the protesters who had umbrellas and helmets.
Police deputy spokesman, Krissana Patanacharoen, told reporters that police used water containing tear gas only after warnings were made for the protesters to disperse, and after using several rounds of clean water.
Krissana said the methods were in line with international methods to control riots.
Anti-government protesters have demonstrated almost daily since July calling for a new government, constitution, and reforms to the powerful monarchy.
The non-violent movement has faced heavy crackdowns by authorities.
A smaller group of conservative royalists gathered outside Parliament earlier on Tuesday to oppose the larger anti-government movement.
