Wiamoase (Ash), Aug. 3, GNA – A 30-bed ultramodern maternity block is to be constructed at the Salvation Army Hospital at Wiamoase to support maternal and child health care delivery in the community.
The new block, to be completed in November this year, would have a theatre, offices for gynaecologist and doctor, antenatal and post-natal wards, intensive care unit (ICU) and nurses’ room.
Other facilities would include an emergency room, records office, blood bank, kitchen and reception.
Mr Robert Mensah, the Sekyere South District Health Director, speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony for work to commence, said the new facility would enable the hospital to run full maternal services for its clients.
He said although the Sekyere South District had about 12 health facilities, the Salvation Army Hospital in Wiamoase alone, rendered services to more than 2,000 people in the area every month.
The hospital also records more than 60 births every month.
Mr Mensah said the new facility would help offer space to nurses, doctors and pregnant women and generally help to improve health care delivery.
He pledged the commitment of health workers in the district to do their best to improve care and called for support from all to achieve the goal.
Mr Alex Gyedu, the Project Coordinator at the Office of Chief of Staff at the Presidency, said the government was poised to support health facilities to render quality services to Ghanaians.
He said the government was carrying out the project in collaboration with the District Assembly.
Mr Gyedu urged the project contractors, Messrs, Prohaul Ghana Limited to complete the work on schedule.
Major Stephen Boadu, the Administrator of the Hospital, commended the government for the initiative and appealed for assistance in the construction of a more spacious children’s ward to ease congestion of the existing one.
