Former GNA Chief Editor to be buried on June 20

Accra, June 7, GNA – Geoffrey Dabietey-Paresen, a former Chief Editor of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), who died on May 9, 2020 at the Lekma Hospital in Accra, will be buried on June 20.

He was the Akyeamehene of Mamfe in the Kyidom Division of the Akuapim Traditional Area of the Eastern Region and an Editorial Consultant for the Daily Dispatch. He was 84 years.

As per the funeral arrangements, the body will be laid in state for filing pass and brief service at the Lashibi Funeral Home on Friday, June 19, from 0930 to 1130 hours with strict adherence to COVID-19 preventive protocols, after which it will be conveyed to Mamfe.

On Saturday, June 20, the body will be laid in state at the Mamfe Kyidomman Palace from 0400 to 0800 hours for filing pass in accordance with traditional norms.

Burial Service will be held at the Presbyterian Church, Emmanuel Congregation, Mamfe, at 0900 hours to be followed by interment at the Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

A Thanksgiving Service will be held on Sunday, June 21, at the Presbyterian Church, Emmanuel Congregation, Teshie Tebibiano.

The Widow, Mrs Caroline Janet Dadietey-Paresen, confirmed the funeral details to the Ghana News Agency and said a later date would be fixed for the final funeral rites in view of the Covid-19 restrictions.

The Late Dabietey-Paresen, with the stool name Nana Opare Dabietey, joined the Ghana News Agency on January 2, 1958 and rose through the ranks to the Chief Editor position before his retirement on December 31, 1997.

Due to his hard work, Management of the GNA offered him a two-year contract from January 1, 1998 to December 31, 1999.

He was installed Akyeamehene of Mamfe-Akuapem in the Kyidom Division of the Akuapem Traditional Area in January 1993, where he served until his demise.

Geoffrey Dabietey-Paresen was an astute professional with a deep sense of the principles of news agency journalism, a meticulous editor whose grasp on the tenets of the profession was elicited in the quality of his works.

He has really paid his dues to the GNA, Mamfe-Kyidom Division of the Akuapem Traditional Council, and country.

He will be sorely missed by all who had the opportunity to work closely with him.
