rnAccra, May 9, GNA – The Ghana Red Cross Society has launched an Emergency Response First Aid Post on the Accra-Tema Motorway as part of its mandate in ensuring road safety and alleviating human suffering.rnThe Emergency Post on the Tema motorway is a pilot project that was expected to be replicated on all major accident-prone highways in the country.rnA statement issued and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, on Wednesday, noted that the objective of the project was to maintain fully equipped Emergency First Aid Posts, manned twenty-four hours a day by trained volunteers and provided with an ambulance for the prompt evacuation of accident victims.rnIt said statistics available indicated that road accidents in Ghana have become a significant cause of death and injuries in recent times.rn“In most cases many of these deaths and injuries may have less impact if people with the requisite First Aid knowledge administered pre-clinical care immediately,” it added. rnThe statement said it was expected that the response rate to victims of road accidents on the motorway would reduce to about ten minutes once the post was fully equipped. rnThe launch formed part of activities to mark World Red Cross Day. rnThe statement appealed to the general public to support in the running costs and maintenance of the post to make it sustainable.rn rn rn rn rnGNA
