Accra, May 14, GNA – To contribute to the fight against the COVID-19, the Fire Service Ladies Association (FISLA) on Thursday presented assorted relief items to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to ensure members adhered to the safety protocols.
The items, worth GH¢35,000.00, included hand sanitizers, liquid soap, and tissue papers for the Service to distribute to all its district offices across the country.
Divisional Officer Grade I Helen Amankwaa, the President of FISLA, said the donation was part of several measures to fight the pandemic.
One of the key focus areas of the Association, she said, was to make a significant impact in the areas of health and safety adding that it was embarking on a sensitisation exercise to encourage and educate the public to stay safe of the disease.
Mr Edwin Ekow Blankson, the Chief Fire Officer, commended the Association for the kind gesture and said it would complement the efforts by the Service to ensure the safety of its staff.
He entreated other welfare organisations within the Service to emulate the example of the Ladies, saying: “I was wondering who was coming to do this donation. It was unbelievable that this very good news could come from our own FISLA”.
He advised the public to adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols by washing hands with soap under running water frequently, using alcohol-based hand sanitizers, wearing face masks, avoid touching the nose, mouth and eyes, and covering mouth and nose with tissue when coughing or sneezing.
Mr Blankson said it was necessary not to overlook the safety protocols as the world was still uncertain about the mode of transmission of the virus and its origin.
“So if the World Health Organisation and Ghana Health Service ask you to leave a distance of at least two metres between someone, double it in action by leaving four metres,” he advised.
