Cape Coast, April 28, GNA – Health and Safety Group Africa (HESAG Africa), Ghana’s premier Health and Safety Think Tank, has implored Government and employers to take the necessary measures to prioritise the safety and well-being of workers.
The Group said employers should classify workers’ health, safety, and wellbeing as the topmost priority by providing a healthy and secure work environment during the COVID-19 period.
Prioritizing the welfare of workers could help foster hope among the workforce, it said and urged employers to continue to protect workers by giving them Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
HESAG Africa Communication Director, Mr. Kingsley Nana Buadu, said this in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency, as the Group marks this year’s World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
The theme for the celebration is; “Stop the pandemic: safety and health at work can save lives.”
The Group also implored workers to demand healthy and safe working conditions from their employers to ensure their well-being and promote productive workforce now and post-COVID-19 crisis.
It congratulated Ghanaian workers for their contributions towards the country’s development under challenging working conditions.
It also commended the Government for taking bold steps to confront the coronavirus pandemic to contain its spread, stressing, “We are grateful to all frontline workers including health workers especially for all the sacrifices they are making for us to win the fight against the pandemic.”
“Beyond this crisis, we would like to urge you all to resume your daily activities in a manner that would sustain the progress we have chalked in suppressing the transmission and its spread.”
It encouraged workers to continue to adhere to the safety protocols laid down by the Government and the Ministry of Health.
The public is enjoined to observe physical and social distancing, wash hands with soap under running water, frequently use alcohol-based hand sanitizers, and wear recommended nose masks for protection against the coronavirus that has infected 1550 with 11 fatalities. There are 134 recoveries.
