Businessman assists the vulnerable, applauds government’s economic policies

Kumasi, April 22, GNA – Alhaji Ali Suraj, a businessman and philanthropist, has provided food and other protective items to thousands of vulnerable residents in Zongo communities in Accra, Kumasi and the Asutifi South District.

The beneficiaries received bags of rice, cooking oil, hand sanitizers, face masks and Veronica buckets.

Alhaji Suraj also paid for the cost of feeding of 100 households in the Asokore Mampong Municipality where he resides.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the gesture was his contribution towards the fight against the coronavirus, focusing on the Zongo communities where vulnerability was relatively high.

He said as a native of Zongo, he was aware of the level of hardship that most residents were facing in the midst of social restrictions and other measures taken by the government to control the spread of the virus, hence his decision to provide some relief for such people.

“This is my small way of giving back to the community where I grew up in this difficult period,” he stated.

As a typical Zongo person, I deem it appropriate to help my people first in these difficult times before extending help to other parts of the country,” he added.

Alhaji Suraj also praised the Akufo-Addo led government for implementing business-friendly economic policies that had seen several business people donating towards the COVID-19 fight.

He said he was able to support the vulnerable as a beneficiary of the sound economic policies of the government and urged Ghanaians to rally behind the government not only to overcome the virus, but also build a resilient economy that could survive the pandemic and beyond.
