Metro office of the NCCE intensifies education on COVID-19

Sekondi, April 17, GNA-The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has intensified education on the deadly COVID-19 pandemic after the Region recorded one case on Sunday.

The massive education drive according to Mr. Kwame Lan Tugbenu the Metro Director of NCCE, was to get the attention of the citizenry to absorb all information on the disease and practise it for effective results.

The COVID -19 pandemic is a global pestilence that has plagued many Nations and claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.

The contagious virus reared its ugly head in Ghana early March with two cases but now the country recorded over 600 positive cases, eight deaths and over 100 treated.

The disease condition is already prevalent in ten Regions of the Country with the Greater Accra chalking the highest figure of more than 500.

Mr Lan Tugbenu said their education still hinged on the regular hand washing practices under running water for twenty seconds and other relevant directives by the President.

“The NCCE believes that if the populace understand this they will wash their hands often. By doing this, they will break the spread of the pandemic”, he added.

He pointed out that the wearing of the nose masks must be a priority for all coupled with social distancing to help break the transmission of the virus.

The Metro Director also encouraged all citizens to use Sanitizers, where running water was not easily available.

Last Sunday, the Region recorded its first case involving a Chinese Miner at Anto in the Shama District, which brought about tension among indigenes and Chinese workers in the area.
Drivers plying that area were reluctant to pick people from Anto and its surrounding areas that generated tension and in some cases, conflicts.

Ms Eunice Owusu, District Officer of the Information Services Department, however said calm had returned to the community after a swift intervention by the District Chief Executive and the District Health Director.

Meanwhile, information on contact tracing and measures adopted by the assembly to address the situation is yet to be made known to the public.
