NPP Parliamentary aspirant welcomes NEC’s decision to postpone primaries

Juaso (Ash), April 18, GNA – Mr William Yamoah, an aspirant in the NPP parliamentary primaries in the Asante-Akim South Constituency, has hailed the party’s decision to suspend the forthcoming primaries due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

He said the decision was not only in the best interest of the party, but the entire country since the convergence of party delegates in one place across the country for the election could be breeding grounds for the virus.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), he said the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party deserved praise for prioritizing the health and safety of the delegates and all stakeholders involved in the elections.

He said the NPP was a party that valued human lives and would not expose members of the party to the deadly disease.

“I think the decision by NEC to suspend the election is in the right direction, considering the fact that it could endanger the lives of delegates and other actors who would play various roles”, he opined.

He said much as the primaries were an important exercise on the party’s calendar and activities towards the 2020 general election, the lives of delegates could not be sacrificed.
He further stated that holding the primaries would have been a slap in the face of the presidential directives on social distancing.

‘As a party in government, it is imperative to show leadership by strictly abiding by all the directives of the president for others to emulate’, he pointed out.

Mr. Yamoah who is also a presidential staffer, therefore, entreated all Ghanaians to observe the basic precautionary protocols in the fight against the virus.

He said it was the collective responsibility of all Ghanaians to cooperate with the President and health authorities to win the battle against the virus.

He encouraged his followers to remain calm as the postponement of the election would not in any way derail his campaign strategy to win the contest.
