Volta markets to be closed for disinfection on Saturday

Ho, April 02, GNA- A total of 75 major market centres in the Volta Region are to be closed on Saturday, April 04, for an extensive disinfection exercise.

The disinfection is part of Government’s efforts at preventing the spread of the novel Coronavirus in the country, and would be undertaken by Zoomlion with a workforce of over 3,000.

Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister told a press briefing on Thursday that all adjacent business outlets, as well as those in close proximity would be closed on the day for the exercise.

The Regional Minister said the various Assemblies would engage leaders of the various markets, traditional authorities, and service providers of the affected areas for their cooperation.

He said the security agencies, officers from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and the National Ambulance Service would be at hand to support the exercise.

Dr Letsa said ample preparation has been made, and that measures had been put in place for a successful exercise, and asked the media to help meet public sensitization targets for the exercise.

The Regional Minister said the Regional Security Council was on top of its responsibilities, and that surveillance on the virus was at its best.

“Ghana is doing well in the coronavirus fight. Our efforts are yielding results”, he added.

Dr Senanu Dzokoto, Deputy Regional Director, Ghana Health Service, in charge of Public Health, said the disinfection exercise was necessary as human to human transmissions was on the rise.
