Tema, Mar 29, GNA – The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has relocated selected foodstuff traders to some school parks as part of measures towards the observation of the partial lockdown of the area to contain the spread of COVID-19.
The decision was taken after Mr Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive and some officials of the Assembly met with market queens to plan on the implementation of the lockdown to ensure social distancing was observed.
Mr Frank Asante, Public Relations Officer of the TMA told the Ghana News Agency that a temporal market had been opened at the Tweaase School park for pepper, tomatoes, okro, garden eggs, palm fruits, cooking vegetables eggs and fish.
Mr Asante added that plantain, cassava, cocoyam and yam traders would now sell at Oninku School park, while traders in fowl, corn dough, charcoal, meat and other related items would remain in the Tema Community one main market.
He added that all food related items would also be sold at Tema Manhean abomosu market and a temporal market at Kplelejootsoshishi to serve the needs of residents of Manhean.
The Chemu park would also have a temporary market to serve residents of communities four, seven, eight, nine, six, 10, 11 and 12.
The PRO added that the Tema Canoe Basin foodstuff (fishing harbour market), Tema Newtown Gallas market, communities four, seven, eight and nine existing markets had been closed temporally.
He noted that to ensure that sanitation and environmental issues were tackled effectively during the shutdown, his outfit had put in place teams to be in charge of sewerage, solid waste, environmental and waste collection.
