North Tongu (VR),March 02, GNA – International Needs Ghana, a charity, has handed over a 20 seater Library to Anawoekope United Methodist Basic School in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.

The new library equipped with over 1,600 books replaces an existing small reading room which hitherto served the 400 student population.

Mr. Cromwell Awadey, Executive Director, INGH, said, his outfit appreciated the value of reading indicating that it was crucial to effective study and discipline.

“It is in this vein that we have worked with our partners to equip this library, “he said.

Last year we undertook a reading clinic in the school and discovered that there was the need to place emphasis on reading among the pupils.

“We urge the headteacher and his staff to ensure that each class has a period to visit the library. Pupils must be guided to read and their progress monitored.”

He gave the assurance that the INGH would refurbish the school’s Computer Laboratory by the end of this year.

In a speech delivered on behalf of the North Tongu District Education Director, Mr. Godwin Amelor, he applauded the efforts of INGH in the District.

He appealed to the pupils to cultivate the habit of reading.

Welcoming the gathering, the immediate past headmistress of the school, Miss Comfort Xorlali Gati, revealed that the library project “bears evidence to the fact that by working together, we could provide resources in our local communities to improve teaching and learning.”
