Strong Financial Performance Reflects ADB’s Transformation Agenda

Commenting on the Bank’s financial performance, the Managing Director of ADB PLC, Mr. Edward Ato Sarpong, described the results as an encouraging demonstration of the Bank’s commitment to strengthening its financial fundamentals, enhancing stakeholder confidence, and delivering sustainable growth.

“Our financial performance reflects the steady progress we are making in building a stronger, more resilient, and competitive bank. The growth in profitability, significant increase in customer deposits, and our capital and liquidity positions demonstrate our commitment to financial discipline, prudent management and sustainable value creation,” the ADB MD said. “We remain focused on consolidating these gains and positioning ADB as a trusted financial partner for businesses, individuals and the productive sectors of Ghana’s economy,” he added.

Mr. Sarpong noted that the Bank’s improved capital position provides a stronger foundation for pursuing its strategic objectives while maintaining prudent risk management practices.

He emphasised that ADB’s transformation agenda remains anchored on strengthening financial performance, deepening customer relationships, improving operational efficiency and supporting Ghana’s economic development.

“Our goal is to build an institution that is not only profitable, but financially sound, customer-focused and capable of delivering long-term value. We are determined to sustain this positive momentum while remaining faithful to our mandate of supporting agriculture, agribusiness and the broader Ghanaian economy,” Mr Ato Sarpong stated.

Financial Discipline and Stronger Funding Position Support Growth

The Deputy Managing Director in charge of Services, Prof. Ferdinand Ahiakpor, emphasised that the improvements in capital adequacy, liquidity and funding costs reflect the importance of prudent financial management and effective resource utilisation.

“The significant strengthening of our capital adequacy and liquidity positions is a major milestone in our efforts to build a financially resilient institution. Strong capital and liquidity buffers are fundamental to maintaining financial stability, protecting stakeholder interests and creating the capacity for sustainable business growth. These results reinforce our commitment to sound financial management, effective risk controls and responsible banking practices,” the DMD Services said.

Prof. Ahiakpor highlighted the substantial reduction in interest expenses as another encouraging development in the Bank’s financial performance.

ADB’s interest expenses declined by approximately GH¢204 million, representing a 36.1% reduction, notwithstanding the significant expansion in its customer deposit base.

“The reduction in interest expenses, alongside the growth in customer deposits, is an important development for the Bank. It demonstrates the value of maintaining a disciplined approach to funding costs and resource management. Our priority is to sustain these improvements, strengthen our financial fundamentals, and ensure that the Bank remains well-positioned to support its customers and strategic growth objectives,” Prof. Ahiakpor noted

He reiterated the Bank’s commitment to strengthening its funding structure, maintaining adequate capital buffers, and promoting long-term financial sustainability.

Customer Deposits Surge to GH¢15.36 Billion

ADB recorded significant growth in customer deposits during the period, with total deposits increasing from GH¢12.85 billion in September 2025 to GH¢15.36 billion in September 2026.

The GH¢2.51 billion increase represents a year-on-year growth of 19.5%, highlighting the expansion of the Bank’s customer funding base.

The growth in deposits was accompanied by an improvement in the Bank’s overall balance sheet, with total assets increasing by approximately 25% from GH¢16.22 billion to GH¢20.28 billion.

Shareholders’ funds also increased from GH¢1.56 billion to GH¢2.76 billion, representing growth of approximately 77%.

These developments provide an encouraging foundation for the Bank’s continued efforts to deepen customer relationships, mobilise deposits and strengthen its financial position.

Operational Excellence and Customer Confidence Remain Central to Growth

The Deputy Managing Director in charge of Operations, Mrs. Sylvia Naa Kwakai Nyante, underscored the importance of customer confidence, service excellence and operational efficiency in supporting the Bank’s growth ambitions.

“Our customers are at the heart of ADB’s transformation journey. The significant growth in customer deposits reinforces the importance of building lasting relationships through dependable banking services, operational excellence and consistent customer engagement. We remain committed to strengthening our systems, improving service delivery and ensuring that our customers enjoy convenient, secure and responsive banking experiences,” the DMD Operations indicated.

Mrs. Nyante noted that the Bank’s focus on operational efficiency, digital transformation and customer-centric service delivery remains essential to sustaining its competitiveness.

“As we strengthen our financial position, we are equally focused on ensuring that our progress translates into tangible benefits for customers. We will continue to invest in operational improvements, strengthen service standards and promote a customer-first culture that makes banking with ADB increasingly convenient and rewarding,” Mrs. Nyante added.

She emphasised that sustaining customer confidence requires continuous improvements in service delivery, operational controls and responsiveness to changing customer expectations.

Strengthening Balance Sheet and Financial Stability

Accumulated losses reduced from GH¢1.70 billion in September 2025 to GH¢1.52 billion in September 2026, while statutory reserves increased from GH¢340.7 million to GH¢534 million.

The Bank also recorded an improvement in its non-performing loans ratio, which declined from 70.13% to 66.32%. Although the ratio remains elevated, the reduction reflects progress in an important credit risk indicator.

These developments highlight the importance of sustained financial discipline, continued loan recoveries and prudent risk management in strengthening the Bank’s long-term financial position.

Sustaining Momentum, Building a Stronger ADB

ADB’s nine-month financial results reflect encouraging progress in profitability, deposit mobilisation, capital adequacy and liquidity management.

With profit before tax reaching GH¢478.5 million, profit after tax increasing to GH¢301.7 million, customer deposits exceeding GH¢15 billion and interest expenses declining substantially, the Bank has demonstrated improvements across several key financial indicators.

The strengthened capital and liquidity positions provide a foundation for the Bank to pursue sustainable growth, deepen customer relationships and support Ghana’s productive sectors.

ADB remains focused on consolidating these gains through prudent financial management, operational excellence, customer-focused innovation and responsible banking.
