Sumbrungu (U/E), Sept. 22, GNA – Mr Aziz Muntawakil, a Senior Staff Nurse (SSN) in the Bolgatanga Municipality, has donated GH¢10,000.00 to the Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

The gesture was to support the construction of a diagnostic laboratory and disease control unit for the Sumbrungu Health Centre.

Mr Stephen Bordotsiah, the immediate past Municipal Director of the GHS, disclosed this at a brief ceremony to commission the newly constructed facility.

He said, “Mr Muntawakil alone, gave us GH¢10,000.00. When I spoke to him and presented an estimate of GH¢9,400.00, he said Boss, I will make it GH¢10,000.00, and at that instance, he sent the money.”

Apart from Mr Muntawakil, who is a staff of the Tindonsoligo Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound, Mr Bordotsiah said Alhaji Nafiu Braimah, another SSN at the Coronation Health Centre, took up the electrical and plumbing costs valued at about GH¢3,400.00.

Mr Bordotsiah in a citation in honour of the two nurses on behalf of the GHS, said “I wish to express our sincerest appreciation and admiration for your outstanding effort in completing the Sumbrungu Health Centre laboratory and Disease Control Unit.

“We pride ourselves in your selflessness, especially in making sure the project comes to reality,” the immediate past Director said.

The diagnostic laboratory and disease control unit were self-initiated projects by the Director who was reassigned to the Bawku West District as part of strategies by management of the Regional Health Directorate to improve service delivery across the Region.

In separate interviews with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Muntawakil, who doubles as a Businessman, said the initiative by the Director to undertake the projects was highly commendable.

“Director Stephen has passion for the job. He has over the years helped staff, especially nurses and midwives in diverse ways to make us comfortable to deliver in our respective work environments.

“This is a Director who donated his allowances to start the projects, and so, if he sought my support to improve service delivery, it was just prudent for me to help, and I thank Almighty Allah for the grace and means to support,” Mr Muntawakil said.

On his part, Alhaji Braimah, told the GNA that, “The motivation is from our Director. He is a mentor and someone who encourages us. We have also seen his hard work and willingness to do more to improve service delivery in the Municipality.

“And so, some of us thought that it was best to support him to leave a good legacy behind. That is the reason I opted to support him continue with his good work for the Service. We hope and pray that his successors will continue from where he left off. We are around to support in anyway we can, if need be,” Alhaji Braimah said.
