Deputy Director NHIA donates GH¢20,000 to support Ketu North Municipal Hospital

Weta (V/R), July 15, GNA – Dr. Senanu Kwesi Dzokoto, Deputy Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has donated GH¢20,000 to the Ketu North Municipal Hospital to help address pressing operational needs and enhance service delivery.

Dr. Dzokoto said the gesture was inspired by President John Dramani Mahama’s recent launch of the “Mahama Cares” Ghana Medical Trust Fund, to which the President pledged six months of his salary.

“This is a call to all public servants. Whenever we identify gaps within our health facilities, we must be ready to sacrifice part of our own income to help,” he stated during a media briefing held alongside the Volta Health Network’s (VHN) medical outreach at the hospital.

He pledged to leverage his influence to mobilise additional resources and like‑minded partners to support the hospital and other healthcare initiatives in the Volta Region.

Medical Superintendent Dr. Sefakor Kpormegbe expressed gratitude for the surprise donation, noting that the facility, commissioned in 2022, was struggling with critical challenges, including poor road access,  and lack of hospital equipment.

There is inadequate staff accommodation with only six bungalows available, making retention difficult and the hospital lacks a dedicated pick‑up vehicle and a minibus for staff shuttle and outreach services.

“The vision of this hospital is to improve accessibility, but bad roads and inadequate logistics hinder that goal,” she said, appealing to government, corporate bodies and philanthropists for further support.

Ketu North Municipal Chief Executive, Rev. Martin Amenakpor, assured stakeholders that the road leading to the hospital was a priority project.

“The contractor is expected on site before the end of the month. Once the road is completed, utilisation of this facility will improve significantly.”

He added that the assembly was engaging private developers through public–private partnerships to build affordable housing for health workers.

Dr. Dzokoto

Dr. Dzokoto and Rev. Amenakpor both lauded the Volta Health Network for its ongoing free medical outreach, which has brought specialists to Weta for three days of surgeries and consultations.

Patients and community leaders likewise expressed appreciation for the combined efforts, calling on other well‑meaning individuals to emulate Dr. Dzokoto’s example and invest in the growth of the hospital.
