We need peace, unity and non-divisiveness in the appointment of MCE for Tema

Accra, April 14, GNA – The National Democratic congress (NDC) leadership in all the three constituencies of Tema have called on party members, supporters, and the good people of Tema to remain calm, united, and respectful of due process of choosing Metropolitan and the Municipal Chief Executives.

“We strongly urge all stakeholders to refrain from actions, statements, or demonstrations that may incite division or disrupt the peace and harmony of our beloved city.

“The NDC Constituency Executive Committee of Tema Central Constituency led by Chairman Benjamin Djakumah who doubles as the Chairman of all Chairmen across all three Constituencies in Tema; Tema East, Tema Central and Tema West together with Ward Coordinators in Tema Central Constituency as well as Branch Executives and party members wish to address the media and the public regarding the ongoing discussions surrounding the appointment of a Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) for Tema Metro by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama”.

A statement signed by Benjamin Djakumah, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra said the selection and appointment of an MCE was a constitutional mandate bestowed on the President, guided by consultations and in the best interest of the people.

“We trust in the wisdom and leadership of the President to appoint a competent, visionary, and inclusive leader who will serve the people of Tema with integrity, fairness, and commitment for development.

“We therefore appeal to all political actors and community members to come together in the spirit of unity, patriotism, and mutual respect. Let us prioritize the collective progress of Tema over individual interests, and work hand-in-hand to build a peaceful and prosperous municipality for all”.

The statement said the people of Tema Central would support any nominee of the President in the interest of peace, unity and progress.
