Tizza Community organises maiden marathon to promote unity

Tizza, (UW/R), April 17, GNA – The Tizza community in the Jirapa Municipality is organising the Tizza Marathon as part of initiatives to improve the health and wellness, including the cardiovascular and muscular wellness of the people who would participate in the exercise.

The Tizza Marathon, the first of its kind in the community, would also enhance the tenacity and endurance of the participants and unearth sports talents for the region and Ghana in general.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Tizza, Mr James Thompson Anlaaminga, the organiser of the event, said the initiative would also help promote unity and togetherness among the people.

He indicated that the inaugural Tizza Marathon is expected to feature high-profile personalities from the Upper West Region and beyond.

They included: Dr. Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr Kofi Adams, the Minister of Sports, and Recreation, Mr Charles Lwanga Puozuing, the Upper West Regional Minister and Mr Biliguo Banaamwine Johnbosco, the Upper West Regional Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA) among others.

Mr Anlaaminga added that sports enthusiasts including athletic clubs and individual athletes from the region were also expected to participate in the Tizza Marathon scheduled for April 19, 2025.

He encouraged members of the public to participate in recreational activities to enhance their health and wellness.

The female participants are expected to do 10km marathon starting from St. Francis Assisi Senior High School while the male participants would do 21.1km starting from Dapuori to Tizza in the Jirapa Municipality.
