There is no evidence of any illegal substances on board both aircrafts — GACL

Accra, April 9, GNA – Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) says there was no evidence of any illegal substances on board both aircrafts.

It said all security checks were conducted by Aviation Security and National Security while ground handling services were conducted by Swissport company for the aircraft that arrived.

A statement issued in Accra by the Airports Company said management’s attention had been drawn to media publications making false allegations concerning the involvement of the Company officials in passing false information to one Reverend Ntim Fodjour, who had made allegations of drug trafficking regarding two aircraft landing at Kotoka International Airport some weeks ago.

The claims, made by the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee and MP for Assin South suggested that the aircraft carried illegal substances.

It said “GACL does not issue landing permits for all aircrafts entering Ghana rather the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and the National Security.”

The statement said Mrs Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, its Managing Director had never met or spoken to Rev. Ntim Fordjour.

“The onus is on the groups or individuals making false allegations to provide evidence of same,” it added.

It said the Airports Company would not hesitate to seek legal redress against any media house, individuals and any other entity for any intentional or mischievous publication on Rev. Ntim Fordjour’s false allegations and related matters that sought to bring the image of the company, its Managing Director or the government into disrepute regarding the two aircrafts.

It entreated Ghanaians to disregard these fictitious and malicious allegations and publications and treat them with the contempt they deserve.
