Accra, April 17, GNA- The Political Science Students Association (POSSA) Inter-Tertiary Connect Initiative has honoured Mr Akwasi Opong-Fosu, the President of Africa Growth Solution.

A citation in recognition reads, “Your tremendous contribution in making the first edition of POSSA lnter-Teritary Connect Initiative a grand success is immensely acknowledged and appreciated.”

It said, “your commitment to academic excellence and your dedication to shaping the future of Political Science Students across various Universities in Ghana have significantly enhanced the success of this historic event.”

Mr Opong-Fosu, who is also a former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, said during their era as students and youth activists, “we were driven by ideological conviction such as nationalism and patriotism.”

He said presently, students and youth leaders were motivated by the leadership purpose of seeking power, fame, privilege, and material gains.

Mr Opong-Fosu said the bitter lessons of probity and accountability in public office had been lost on them, hence the daily exposure of corruption and unethical behaviour in public service.

“The reset agenda cannot achieve the intended objectives unless there is a shift in mindset regarding leadership purposes and governance,” he added.

Mr Opong-Fosu said countries like China, South Korea, and Singapore, who were at the same level of development as Ghana during independence, had progressed to the level of developed countries due to mindset shift: from poverty to wealth-creation; from dependency on external powers to self-reliance.
