Sunyani, (Bono), April 2, GNA – Some investors in Iran have developed interest to support and invest in the nation’s agriculture sector for commercial production of rice, Mr Seid Mubarak, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani East has said.

“I had lengthy discussions with them when I visited Iran and very soon the investors will arrive in the country to see the possibility of the investments in the sector”, he told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani.

Mr Mubarak said in consultation with some chiefs, acres of land had been earmarked in the constituency for the rice project that would create job opportunities for the youth and enhance food productivity too.

He expressed worry that despite Ghana’s arable and virgin lands, it was worrying that the nation imported about $2-million of rice annually.

Mr Mubarrak said investments in the rice sector would enable the nation to close the gap and export more rice to enhance its foreign exchange earnings, create more jobs for wealth creation and poverty reduction.
