Accra, April 01, GNA – Mr Kofi Iddie Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, has stated their commitment to fully cooperate with the investigation to unravel the cause of death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju.
The boxing world is mourning the loss of Oluwasegun, who died last Saturday during a bout against Ghanaian boxer John Mbanugu at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.
In a statement, Mr Adams expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the Nigerian boxer and the boxing fraternity.
“We deeply empathise with the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBC), the entire Nigerian boxing fraternity, and the global boxing community over this irreplaceable loss.
“Gabriel’s untimely departure not only deprives boxing of an admirable competitor but also reminds us of the unpredictable nature of the sports we passionately love,” the statement said.
It added,” “While we await the official medical report regarding the cause of Gabriel’s passing, the ministry, together with the GBA, pledge full cooperation to ensure a thorough investigation and to support all efforts aimed at improving the safety of our athletes.”
The Sports and Recreation Minister further reiterated their commitment to safeguard the wellbeing of athletes across the continent.
