Sunyani, (Bono), April 3, GNA – Mr Kwame Governs Agbodza, the Minister of Roads and Highways, has commended some road contractors for their dedication and commitment to improving road infrastructure nationwide despite the financial constraints.
He admitted that though the government owed many of the road contractors, some of them remained committed and were still working tirelessly to improve some of the deplorable condition of road networks in the country to spur economic growth and development.
Mr Agbodza gave the commendation when he interacted with the media after inspecting the state of some roads in Sunyani and Sunyani West Municipalities, and parts of the Bono Region.
“President Mahama is committed to complete construction works on abandoned road projects”, the sector minister stated and assuring that the government would also endeavour to pay its debts owed the road contractors.
However, Mr Agbodza added that, “we will focus on paying the contractors who are still at work, despite the financial challenges.”
He explained that work on the construction of the Sunyani outer ring-road (Alaska Road) was very dear to the heart of President Mahama, saying the contractors working on that abandoned project had been asked to mobilise resources, resume work and complete the project.
“We have also held extensive discussions with other road contractors executing various projects in the Sunyani West and Sunyani Municipalities and they will resume work on some of the abandoned road projects very soon,” Mr Agbodza assured.
He said though he and his entourage, including road engineers could not inspect some of the roads, the Ministry had the data on all the deplorable and abandoned road projects in the region, and assured that construction work on many of them would commence soon.
The sector minister was accompanied by Mr Dickson Kyere Duah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Berekum West; Madam Millicent Amankwaa Yeboah, the MP for Sunyani West; and Mr Seid Mubarak, the MP for Sunyani East Constituencies.
