Bawku (U/E), April 10, GNA – The private residence of Hajia Laadi Ayii Ayamba, the Member of Parliament for the Pusiga constituency in Bawku, has been attacked by some armed men, burning a mattress and a bed in the house.
The incident which occurred around midday on Thursday, April 10, 2025, also led to damages to the doors and windows of the house.
Security sources said some irate youth, armed with guns, had stormed the house and fired gunshots, causing damages to the doors, windows and other parts of the house.
The also set ablaze a mattress and a bed in a summer hut used by the security during duties, however, no casualties have been recorded.
The Ghana News Agency also had information that there was a failed attempt to attack the private residence of Mr Mahama Ayariga, the MP for Bawku Central Constituency in Bawku.
The perpetrators and the motive behind the crime has not yet been established.
However, the Ghana News Agency sources revealed that the MP’s residence provided accommodation for some police officers working in the area.
Security sources have however, linked the incident to Wednesday’s violent clashes between the police and some irate youth of one the factions involved in the longstanding Bawku chieftaincy conflict.
The incident led to the death of one civilian, Fuseini Iddrisu, and the burning of police barracks, a police vehicle and private residence of three police officers including Assistant Commissioner of Police, Adamu Seidu, the Bawku Divisional Police Commander.
A police officer and immigration officer were also shot while other civilians have also sustained injuries and currently receiving medical treatment.
Tension in the area is escalating but the police and other security agencies have intensified efforts to maintain calm and order.
The police have advised the feuding factions to leave the security agencies out of their conflict, since their presence there is to protect lives and properties and not to meddle in their chieftaincy issues.
