Kumasi April 17, GNA – Professor Humphrey Danso, Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, has been elected as the President of the alumni association of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED).

He polled 144 ‘yes’ votes as against ‘3’ no votes in an election in which he was the sole contender, to steer the affairs of the association for the next two years.

The election of the new President climaxed the second national congress of the association held at the Kumasi campus of the university.

The Vice President position was won by Dr George Asante, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Information Technology Education (DITE) of AAMUSTED.

He polled 92 votes to beat the incumbent Vice President, Mrs Millicent Pimpong, who had 52 votes.

The incumbent Organiser of the Association, Mr. Ebenezer Kofi Peprah, maintained the position for a second consecutive term, deflecting a fierce attempt by Mr. Elijah Otis Awuni in the process.

Mr Peprah secured 92 votes as against 52 by Mr Awuni to maintain his position.

The Secretary and Financial Secretary positions were annexed by Messrs. Immanuel-Best Dabie Kyeremeh and Mr. Derrick Kofi Sarpong, respectively, having contested for the positions unopposed.

Prof. Danso, speaking after the elections, accepted the responsibility to lead the Alumni Association, promising to work hard with the other executives to push forward the frontiers of the Association.

He commended the outgoing executives for their role in the development of the Association, acknowledging that the beginnings of everything was often a difficult task.

The President-elect noted that the new executives would receive the baton to continue from where the old executives had reached to ensure the success of the Association.

As new Executives, he observed that, they would need members to rally behind them, ready to volunteer ideas, and their services for the development of the Association.

“If you were offended in any way in the course of the electioneering, I appeal to every member to forgive so that we can immediately bury our differences and forge ahead in unity,” the President-elect said.

The Second National Congress was under the theme – “Addressing Unemployment in Ghana, Role of the AAMUSTED Alumni.”

The Main speaker for the Congress was Prof. Charles Baba Campion, a recently retired staff of AAMUSTED, and now Acting President of the Regent-Trofen University College at Bongo in the Upper-East Region.

Other speakers were the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Boateng, who welcomed members of the Association on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Frederick Kwaku Sarfo; the Dean of the Faculty of Technical Education (FTE), Prof. Emmanuel Appiah-Kubi, and the Director of Research, International Programmes and Institutional Advancement (DRIPIA), Prof. Ebenezer Bonyah.
