Kwahu-Abetifi, April 26, GNA – The Presbyterian University, Ghana (PUG) has announced the introduction of additional graduate programmes aimed to respond to the dynamic needs of the Ghanaian economy.
The new graduate programmes include MBA in Human Resource Development, an MSc in Emergency and Disaster Management, MSc in Strategic Management and Corporate Strategy, MSc in Project Planning and Management and an MSc in Cyber Security, among others.
Reverend Dr Nana Opare Kwakye, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and Chancellor of the University, announced this at a special congregation of the School of Graduate Studies and Research of the PUG where 350 graduated from seven diverse programmes.
Graduate research when effectively harnessed, provided evidence-based insights for policymaking, drives technological advancement and supports entrepreneurial.
He noted that as a country our ability to innovate, create sustainable solutions and to transform our socio-economic realities rests significantly on the capacity of graduate institutions to produce critical thinkers and skilled professionals.
The Moderator and Chancellor of the University, therefore made a passionate appeal to government to give priority to graduate research and make funding schemes, research grants and institutional support more enhanced.
He hoped that the graduates would go forth to shine as ambassadors of the University with a service reflecting the presbyterian values upon which the university was founded.
Out of the 350, 39 graduated with MPhil in Educational Studies, 26 with MEd in Educational Studies, 44 with MA in International Development Studies, 15 with MSc in Environmental Health and Sanitation, 10 with MSc in Natural Resource Management, 28 with MSc in Financial Risk Management and 188 with Master of Public Health.
Professor John Ofosu Anim, Vice-Chancellor of the University in his address, said the graduands had received knowledge in critical areas needed for national development.
He said expertise of the new graduands was instrumental in positioning Ghana on the global stage, attracting partnerships and driving sustainable development initiatives.
The Vice Chancellor noted that in an increasingly interconnected world, understanding global dynamics was crucial, mentioning the MA in International Development Studies for instance where they had been trained to analyze international policies, manage development projects, and engage with global institutions.
He reminded the graduands that the world was filled with opportunities and challenges which required not only knowledge and resilience but character.
“Remember that education is not about personal advancement, it’s about contributing to the common good and making a difference in society, so I urge each of you to carry the values of Presbyterian University’s integrity, compassion, and thirst for knowledge to guide you in all your endeavors.”
