Accra, April 06, GNA-The Black Queens of Ghana secured a 1-0 victory over the Teranga Lionesses of Senegal in the first leg encounter of their pre-Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) friendly.
Badu’s early minute finish was enough to seal a win for the West African giants as they pinned down the home side at their backyard.
Ghana started the game with some familiar faces to bounce back from their last defeat in Morocco.
Few minutes into the match, the Black Queens dominated the half of Senegal with some great attacking play.
After minutes of hunting for an opener, youngster Badu settled on Princess Owusu’s cross in the 24th minute to give Ghana the advantage.
The search for a second goal continued as Senegal cemented their defense with solid clearances to end the first 45 minutes limping.
Two quick substitutions from Coach Kim Lars Björkegren in the second half lifted the spirit of the girls who kept mounting pressure on the Teranga Lionesses.
Doris Boaduwaa, a dominant force in the Black Queens squad had some clean chances but did not extend the lead of the visiting team.
Goalkeeper Cynthia Findib came to the rescue of the Queens in the dying minutes to keep her team in the game.
After an exciting 90 minutes of play, Coach Björkegren found reasons to celebrate as he secured his first win as Head Coach of the Black Queens.
Ghana would face Senegal in the return leg on Tuesday, April 08,2025.
