Accra, April.09, GNA – The Teranga Lionesses of Senegal scored a late winner to stun Ghana’s Black Queens in the second leg encounter of their international friendly in Dakar.
Hapsatou Malado Diallo’s dying-minute thunderbolt shot sealed Senegal’s revenge after losing 1-0 in the first leg.
With five changes in his earlier starting lineup, Coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s side nearly found the net 14 minutes into the game after Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah’s run went unnoticed, leaving Boaduwaa with no choice in the 18-yard-box.
Ghana’s shot-stopper Cynthia Findib seized the opportunity to make some quick saves despite being surrounded by a strong wall.
The hosts had the better of the first half as Ghana began slowly with a defensive approach.
The visitors sustained the pressure after the break, stopping Senegalese skipper Korka Fall who swivelled and sent her efforts far from goal on many occasions.
Senegal kept exposing the Ghanaian defense with some pacy attacking moves which left Portia Boakye and her charges hanging minute after minute.
It was a difficult battle for Ghana who were hoping to settle on their earlier win to end their campaign with an unbeaten record.
Diallo took advantage of a scattered defense in the 90th minute and drilled a rebound into the far-right corner to give Senegal a convincing win over Ghana.
Ghana won the first leg by a lone goal courtesy Evelyn Badu’s header.
Ghana, together with Senegal are among the 12 teams that will be competing at the 2024 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
